Decline and fill
Article Abstract:
Children's oral health improved steadily in the UK after the introduction of fluoride toothpaste at the beginning of the 1970s. However, a 1994 survey indicated that children in some areas, including Yorkshire, Oxford and Scotland, are experiencing a deterioration in oral health. Dental erosion is a significant problem. A survey has indicated that dental erosion is present in more than 50% of children aged five and six. Experts believe it is caused by sugary drinks. Other significant factors in the decline in oral health include social problems and lack of water fluoridation.

The great pain robbery
Article Abstract:
Chronic pain is a common problem in the UK yet many sufferers receive inadequate treatment. The National Health Service, which focuses resources on acute pain, offers only a few specialized practitioners and pain clinics. These practitioners would like to have better analgesics with fewer adverse effects, but maintain that improved use of existing analgesics could control pain for many people. Uninformed attitudes concerning the use of drugs to control pain is a major problem. Some experts believe that a new non-medical model for the approach to pain control could be helpful.
