The relationship between perinatal cosmetic talc usage and ovarian talc particle burden
Article Abstract:
The use of powder with talc on perineal tissues may enable talc to migrate into upper genital tract tissues. Perineal talc exposure has been linked with ovarian cancer, with the risk of cancer increasing with amount of exposure. Researchers analyzed ovaries from 24 women whose ovaries were removed for noncancerous reasons for the presence of talc. Women were asked about their use of talcum powder, and the mothers of 11 women were asked about their use of talcum powder during diapering. Ovaries of all 24 women contained talc, as detected by light or electron microscopy. A wide range of talc particle counts were found. Talc particle counts did not correlate with reported talc usage. Talc is related to asbestos, a substance known to cause cancer.

Correlation of asbestos fiber burdens in fallopian tubes and ovarian tissue
Article Abstract:
The fallopian tubes can be analyzed for the presence of asbestos if ovarian cancer has destroyed the ovaries. In a study of 21 women, both the ovary and fallopian tube contained asbestos in 71% of the cases. Many of the women had no known exposure to asbestos.

Perineal application of talc and cornstarch powders: evaluation of ovarian cancer risk
Article Abstract:
Body powders that contain cornstarch probably do not increase the risk of ovarian cancer. Talcum powders have been linked to ovarian cancer, but cornstarch can be metabolized by the body and is unlikely to cause ovarian cancer.
