The role of color Doppler imaging in the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome
Article Abstract:
Transvaginal color Doppler imaging can assist in the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome. Color Doppler flow imaging measures blood flow within blood vessels. Thirty-two women with characteristic symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome underwent transvaginal color Doppler imaging of the uterine blood vessels and the blood vessels within the ovary. They also underwent ultrasonographic imaging of the ovary and had blood drawn for hormonal analysis. Eighteen healthy volunteer women underwent the same procedures and results were compared. The women with polycystic ovaries showed a characteristic pattern of abnormal vascularization of the ovary and abnormal blood flow within the ovary and the uterine artery. The ability to correctly predict the presence or absence of polycystic ovaries based on this characteristic pattern exceeded 95% in both cases.

Evidence for a neutrophil-interleukin-8 system in human folliculogenesis
Article Abstract:
Interleukin-8 seems to be involved in the maturation of follicles in the ovary. Interleukin-8 is an immune system protein that attracts white blood cells called neutrophils. Researchers analyzed 268 human ovarian follicles for the presence of neutrophils and interleukin-8. The follicles contained many neutrophils and the number of neutrophils was twice as high in follicles that were ready to release an egg compared to immature follicles. Interleukin-8 was also detected in the follicles.

A practical approach to the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome
Article Abstract:
Investigating the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is primarily achieved through clinical history and physical findings. In addition, in the obese individual determinations of glucose and insulin levels, as well as a lipid profile are highly recommended.
