The role of modern matrons in raising standards of infection control
Article Abstract:
Modern matrons are introduced to the NHS hospitals in 2001 and are growing since the care trusts have recognized the benefits of having a senior nurse who can take a strategic role improving patient care. Growing evidences are found that matrons have a genuine impact on the range of clinical issues to improve patient care including infection control.

Article Abstract:
A recent Department of Health (DoH) report recommended that directors of infection prevention and control should take trust-wide responsibility for reducing the incidence of health care-associated infections (HCAI). The problem and whether this new role is the answer, is discussed.
