The working wounded
Article Abstract:
Coronary heart disease (CHD) kills around 150,000 people in the UK annually. It is caused by a blockage in the coronary arteries which take blood to the heart muscle. A large blockage can result in a heart attack which may be fatal. The National Heart Forum have initiated a campaign aimed at children to prevent them starting poor eating habits. The causes of CHD are varied but include smoking, stress, too little exercise, dietary deficiencies, too much alcohol and some hereditary conditions. A report found that long hours at work can also cause CHD.

This working life
Article Abstract:
Former roofer Nick Cook believes more attention should be paid to the safety of people working on roofs, after he suffered a serious back injury in 1990 which left him almost paralysed. Cook slipped off a friends roof and needed 10 years of physiotherapy to walk again despite being in constant pain and being unable to work. He is convinced his accident could have been prevented if he had paid more attention to the safety aspects of his work.
