D-grading debacle
Article Abstract:
Recently qualified midwives who have not had a traditional nursing training background are being given D grades, which are inappropriately low according to the Royal College of Midwives. Many midwives feel that they are very lucky to have been given a position at all, and some feel that the training given through the pre-registration scheme is not appropriate for an E grade position. The route taken to registration should be irrelevant when a newly qualified midwife is allocated a grade.

Most A&E units 'too small,' says report
Article Abstract:
Seriously ill patients can only be offered really high standards of treatment in accident and emergency departments which treat at least 50,000 people a year, according to a report from the Audit Commission. The report states that two thirds of accident and emergency departments are too small, thus rendering them less effective. In many cases, larger accident and emergency facilities are available a short distance away.
