This review discusses various aspects of palliative medicine such as its objective and components aimed at achieving a total care and management of the quality of life of patients with advanced disease. While palliative care is all about relieving the patients and their families from suffering, compassionate communication and management of pain, depression, delirium, and grief form an integral part of the end-of-life care.
