Vaccines against Ebola and Marburg viruses show promise in primate studies
Article Abstract:
Design and testing of vaccines against Ebola and Marburg is a live attenuated re-combinant form of the vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) genetically stomatitis to express either the Ebola or the Marburg virus surface protein. The researchers chose VSV as a vector because humans do not have strong pre-existing immunity to this virus, which is not the case for other viral candidates such as adenovirus, a familiar cause of the common cold.

Looking beyond imatinib: Next line of targeted drugs for CML shows promise
Article Abstract:
Promising results from a trial of imatinib for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) led to a validation of the notion that tailoring drugs to act on a specific molecular targets could destroy malignant cells while sparing normal ones. These findings suggest that the next generation of similarly targeted drugs may help patients with relapsed disease.
