Value of amniotic fluid neutrophil collagenase concentrations in preterm premature rupture of membranes
Article Abstract:
Increased amounts of matrix metalloproteinase-8 in amniotic fluid is a strong risk factor for impending birth in pregnant women with premature rupture of membranes. This enzyme, also called neutrophil collagenase, is a marker of inflammation.

Amniotic fluid matrix metalloproteinase-8 in preterm labor with intact membranes
Article Abstract:
Pregnant women in premature labor who have increased amounts of matrix metalloproteinase-8 in amniotic fluid have a high risk of impending delivery, uterine infection, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. This enzyme is a marker of inflammation.

Phenotypic and metabolic characteristics of maternal monocytes and granulocytes in preterm labor with intact membranes
Article Abstract:
Premature birth may be caused by activation of the pregnant woman's immune system, according to a study of 105 pregnant women. This could be caused by a uterine infection, which has also been linked to premature birth.
