What a relief measure
Article Abstract:
Royal Liverpool University Hospital NHS Trust invited companies to tender for the supply of pressure-relief equipment on a hire basis to ensure equipment is the most clinically effective available. The trust previously obtained supplies from seven different providers and staff were often unfamiliar with equipment used in different areas. Patients at risk were promptly offered support surfaces, thus reducing the incidence of serious pressure sores. Staff collaborated with eachother to enhance patient care, with job satisfaction improving as patient demand for resources could be met.

Growing concern
Article Abstract:
Children can be very susceptible to pressure sores when in hospital, although traditional adult prevention techniques do not often work because of the different requirements of children's shape, weight distribution and ability to communicate. A children's pressure scoring system has been developed which takes into account several factors, such as heart rate, body temperature, breathing requirements and nutrition. The system allows nurses to use appropriate pressure relieving techniques suitable for children and small babies.
