Why I gave up the high life
Article Abstract:
Five nurses describe why they gave up successful careers in other fields to follow a nursing career. Annie Connell earned 35,000 pounds sterling per year as the personal assistant to an advertising agency artistic director. However, she tired of the values and the lifestyle of the advertising world and decided to return to the nursing profession in which she had first trained. She is very aware of the difference in earnings but she enjoys the comradeship in the nursing profession and the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives.

The highs and lows of supermidwifery
Article Abstract:
The ever expanding skills required by UK midwives is causing concern to those who have trained in the profession but now see their role being undermined by the introduction of consultant grade midwives. Traditionally trained midwives claim the new grade of midwife will result in lower pay for those working at grass-roots level, while the higher grade midwife will be paid more for a knowledge of additional skills.
