Healthcare delivery in the 21st century: preparing for practice
Article Abstract:
The UKCC aims through its new Education Commission to encourage a wide-reaching reassessment of pre-registration education for nurses. The Commission has begun by analyzing the philosophy on which the original Project 2000 proposal 'A New Preparation for Practice' was based, considering whether this remains relevant for current requirements to ensure fitness for practice. It is hoped that the Commission will be able to make recommendations for both short-term and long-term amendments to pre-registration education.

Article Abstract:
Nurses based in UK primary health care centres are becoming increasingly involved in the delivery of contraceptive services. These nurses need to have up-to-date knowledge of research findings, product information, and health issues surrounding contraception. This would help them address public scares related to media coverage. It could also end disparities in contraceptive care which are due to financial decisions based on outdated information.
