George E. Marcus helped transform anthropology, the study of human beings and their cultures, from a field that focused primarily on studies of isolated communities into a comparative discourse on the nature of societies, placing an unprecedented emphasis on modern Western society. He rose to the position of associate professor and became chair at the Rice University in the Anthropology Department in 1980.

Vin Scelsa, Disc jockey and host of the radio program Idiot's Delight

Vin Scelsa is a disc jockey whose show Idiot's Delight on New York City WFUV 90.7 FM is hugely popular at a time when there are only few radio stations that hire disc jockeys. Scelsa is known for the wide variety of music he plays as well as for the lengthy in-depth interviews he conducts with guest artists.
