Cash-balance plan adapts to mobile work force
Article Abstract:
The cash-balance plan is the latest innovation in benefit plans being offered among companies as the traditional work force shift from career employees to mobile employees. These plans inform employees regularly of their pension account balances. It attracts employees who are flexible, independent and risk-takers. The cash-balance plan has done away with the problem of traditional defined benefit plans of the lump sum values' sensitivity to market rates.

Sponsors seek added value through flexible benefits
Article Abstract:
Flexible retirement benefit plans can be designed to allow both employers and employees to determine how much to spend and how to spend on benefits. Aside from increase employee participation in retirement planning, flexible retirement plans release employers from assuming full responsibility for benefit plan management. A discussion of the key considerations that should be taken into account in designing flexible retirement benefit plans is presented.

A wide variety of hybrid plans have been developed to meet the demand for defined benefit plans which can serve a variety of needs. Plan sponsors may be greatly tempted to adopt these new plans but before making any such decision, they should keep in mind the organization's business and financial objectives.
