Determinants of employee willingness to use feedback for performance improvement: cultural and organizational interpretations
Article Abstract:
The role of a supervisor is perceived differently in Hong Kong China compared with a more individualistic society. Paternalism is seen as normal for a supervisor in Chinese culture. Hong Kong is a collectivist society where the trust in a supervisor relates to the moral worth and personal credibility of that supervisor when appraising employees. Employees see their response in terms of a personal obligation in relation to their supervisor rather than a more abstract obligation to meet goals.
