How effective is ACAS as a conciliator?
Article Abstract:
The Advisory, Conciliation, and Arbitration Service (ACAS) was established by the British government to facilitate collective bargaining agreements. The results of a survey assessing the effectiveness of the ACAS are discussed. The survey results were drawn from the opinions and experiences of 335 union and management negotiators who have used the ACAS during the 1980s. The survey questions addressed four main areas: the role of ACAS conciliators, the quality of ACAS conciliators, the quality of the agreements reached by the parties using the ACAS, and the negotiators' feelings about third party negotiation. Most of the respondents were satisfied with the service. Many respondents felt that the ACAS could be improved by providing conciliators with more training in specific industries and with more manpower resources.

Recruitment brochures - are students getting the message?
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of recruitment brochures in attracting new graduates is examined. Thirty-eight final-year students at a British university were surveyed concerning their feelings toward recruitment brochures. More than 76 percent had read the brochures available, and 37 percent rated the brochure as the factor most likely to make them apply to a company. Only 62 percent of those who had read the brochures found them informative, however. These results suggest that students want more detailed and realistic information from recruitment brochures.
