Skills for managing human resources in a complex environment: the perceptions of human resource managers in Singapore
Article Abstract:
Singapore has undergone a period of dynamic growth and has significantly increased its per capita income since 1980. However, such rapid economic growth has caused problems of labour shortages and turnover and human resources managers in Singapore have to cope with a complex employment environment. A study of human resources managers in 58 organisations in Singapore finds that they could deal more effectively with problems if they take on broader roles within their organisations.

Tackling age discrimination in employment in Singapore
Article Abstract:
Singapore has an ageing society and a labor shortage, yet there is employer discrimination against older workers. The Retirement Age Act of 1993 was geared to ending unfair job losses affecting older workers. Other aspects of employment discrimination such as hiring, training and promotion are not covered by this act. Additional research is needed on the human resources issues relating to older workers, and there is a need for further legislation to prevent discrimination.
