The importance of top management visibility for service-based professionals
Article Abstract:
Top management visibility may play a vital role in management effectivity by presenting employees with role models and influencing their work attitudes and behaviors. A study was conducted to analyze the impact of top management visibility with various groups of professional employees. Results show that service focus and customer contact affect employee perception of top management visibility. Those concerned with internal operations and do not perform client service turn to top managers for role clarification while those with outsider focus and customer contact get reinforcement from client demands.

Article Abstract:
An Institute of Personnel Development report on UK management-employee relations reveals employees consider themselves more loyal to other employees than to their employers. Although 40% are loyal to their employers, only 25% trust their companies without reservation, while 64% believe themselves to be loyal to fellow employees. The survey shows the effect of work intensification on employee commitment and loyalty. Managers' feelings about unions were also surveyed.
