Two-thirds of women return to work after childbirth
Article Abstract:
A Policy Studies Institute report says that the number of women returning to work after childbirth in Britain has increased from 45% in 1988 to 67% in 1996. The research studied the impact of legislation and of flexible working arrangements on women's decision to return to the workforce. The report noted that women were more likely to return with the same employer in 1996 compared to 1988; 33% of women who were full-time employees opted for part-time work after childbirth and women in higher level jobs in the public sector and those in companies with family friendly policies were more likely to return to work.
