Who cares for the NHS?
Article Abstract:
A growing amount of attention is being given to working conditions in the UK National Health Service (NHS) as the government seeks to make the NHS an exemplary employer. Indeed, some observers believe that existing NHS departments could play a key role in the creation of a national occupational health service. There are still some deficiencies in the overall service provided by NHS occupational health departments, but most now provide a preventive service. It is possible that the external services offered by many NHS trusts could form the basis for a national occupational health service.

Article Abstract:
The law on whether an employer is responsible for the health and safety of an employee who is working abroad is rather unclear. There have been several rulings which contradict each other, but most reasonable employers accept they do have a responsibility for their employees and prepare them beforehand. Travellers need to ensure that they have the necessary immunizations, that they have an emergency travel pack of needles and syringes, that they are aware of climate and sanitation problems and know what foods to avoid. Driving abroad is particularly hazardous.
