The legal community's opinion on disciplining lawyers for private conduct is discussed. Privacy concerns, the possible imposition of one person's moral code on another, and the use of the disciplinary system as a political weapon are among the problems mentioned.

Good news is good news; malpractice claims study shows positive trends for the legal profession
Article Abstract:
The lack of change in the relative frequency of legal malpractice claims brought during the 1990s and the dismissal or judgment for the defendant of almost three-quarters of such claims brought during the last half of the decade are discussed.

Big pay day for new associates; competition from private industry pushes some starting salaries to $91,000
Article Abstract:
Associate salaries are rising rapidly at law firms because legal business is booming and new lawyers are in big demand. When one firm in a particular market raises salaries, others in that market must follow suit to remain competitive. It is also not just law firms which are raising salaries; others to recruit directly out of law school are investment banking and consulting firms, and they pay new lawyers almost as much as law firms.
