The claim is made that crime and legal work represent a continuum of illegal and legal income-generating activities, linked by trade-offs between the rewards and costs of both. An inverse relationship links crime rates and expected legal wages, and many criminals are involved in both legal work and crime.

Guns, youth violence, and social identity in inner cities
Article Abstract:
This article theorizes that the increase in gun availability is a factor in the rise of youth violence and juvenile homicide. Street gangs' code of ethics, widespread drug dealing, and the need to prove masculinity are cited as possible reasons for the relationship between guns and youth violence.
