He says the Power Rangers ripped him off; are the popular figures mere imitators of the real thing? Senator Dole takes sides
Article Abstract:
Former FBI agent Herb Simmons claims in a lawsuit filed in June 1995 in Los Angeles that he developed the concept for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, produced and marketed by Saban Entertainment. Simmons says he set his idea out in 1987 after years of research, and met at least 10 times with a senior Fox Television executive. In 1993 that executive helped launch the Power Rangers, which share many elements with Simmons' Star Patrol. Saban claims it developed its product independently, based in part on a Japanese show.

$350M jury verdict in crash; helicopter case yields apparent wrongful-death record
Article Abstract:
On July 20, 1995, the family of an air ambulance pilot killed in a 1993 crash won a $350 million jury award against French helicopter maker Turbomeca SA. The award, half punitive and half compensatory damages, may be the largest ever, and follows by 4 months a $70 million award for the death of the patient in the crash. Turbomeca knew since 1986 of the engine problem, but a recall would have cost $48 million. Two other victims in the crash, paralyzed for life, settled. Turbomeca plans to appeal the award.
