Ellis McCracken the vice pres and general counsel of Anheuser-Busch Companies Inc, heads a department of 50 attorneys and 19 legal assistants, and structured on traditional lines including intellectual property, commercial, litigation, international, employment, labor, employee benefits and marketing and distribution. For a century, the company has been involved in a dispute with a Czech brewery regarding worldwide rights to the Budweiser name. The company has also tried to protect commercial free speech rights by challenging a Baltimore municipal ordinance banning billboard advertising of alcoholic drinks.

Steven G. Juelsgaard, the vice pres, general counsel and secretary of Genentech Inc, one of the world's largest biopharmaceutical firms, heads a department of 22 attorneys and has a budget of over $20mil. Three-quarters of the budget goes for outside counsel, most for lawyers but some for patent searches. Genentech hires lawyers with at least 3 years of experience and has sought attorneys educated in the biological sciences.

Her museum has gone multinational
Article Abstract:
Judith Cox, the deputy director and general counsel of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, heads a small department of just three lawyers and one legal assistant. She views the exposure to art as her position's greatest advantage and loves working in such a beautiful building. Her favorite works in the museum are the paintings by Wassily Kandinsky. The current legal project is working on the Guggenheim Museum in Berlin.
