NALP head leaves her post, replacement is new to the field
Article Abstract:
Lujuana Wolfe Treadwell has resigned as head of the National Assn of Law Placement (NALP) to accept an assistant deanship at the University of California at Berkeley School of Law. NALP is 21 years old and its mission is to be a bridge between law schools and the legal job market. Its membership numbers over 1000, with approximately 850 employers and 175 law schools. Treadwell feels her main accomplishment was steering NALP through recessionary times. She will be replaced by Paula Patton, a newcomer to the legal community who was formerly a school district official in Kansas.

Students still having trouble getting jobs, paying off loans
Article Abstract:
The National Assn for Law Placement survey of 1992 law school graduates shows that while most graduates are still finding employment, they accepted less starting pay than 1991's crop of graduates. The average starting pay was $40,000 in 1991 and $36,000 in 1992. The 83.5% of graduates who were working within half a year of graduation is a 2.4% drop from the percentage working in 1991. This is a smaller percentage drop than took place between 1990 and 1991, which some see as a sign the recession is ending.
