Article Abstract:
Black public officials' turning to an old English law permitting them to pursue private criminal justice in a 1998 Philadelphia police brutality case is discussed. The ruling found an abuse of prosecutorial discretion in the failure to approve the private criminal complaints as to third-degree murder.

Nipping youth crime in the bud; lawyers help steer truants to the right side of the law through bar projects
Article Abstract:
Many law firms are fine-tuning their pro bono projects with signature projects focused on a specific issue or problem area . Atlanta Bar Ass'n's Truancy Intervention Program is one example and boasts a 70% success rate in keeping potential dropouts in school. Many similar truancy projects have been started across the US, usually with strong local bar participation and leadership.

Article Abstract:
The article tells the story of Steven Y. Lee longstanding unauthorized practice of law in several states and of how his deception was finally found out at Northern California's Wilson, Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati. What caused Lee's deception is a mystery but may relate to his being a high-achieving Korean-American who could not bear to admit to his family his failure to pass his first bar examination.
