Not over: L.A. faces more King litigation

Article Abstract:

Federal district judge John G. Davies presided over both the criminal trial of the four policemen accused of brutalizing Rodney King and the civil trial in which they were accused of violating King's civil rights. Outside observers feel perhaps the judge lacked the impartiality to preside over the civil trial. The prosecution's finding of fact in the civil case found that King provoked much of the beating and that the officers had already suffered a great deal, including the possible double jeopardy of the civil case. The King case has become something of a growth industry.

Article Abstract:

Jo-Ellan Dimitrius of Litigation Sciences Inc. worked as a defense consultant on the two Rodney King cases and will play the same role with the Reginald Denny case. She feels that the defense did well in preserving the appearance of unity during the federal trial but that defense disunity was really the order of the day. She also thinks the defense made too optimistic a prediction of Stacey Koon's credibility with the jurors.
