"SLAPP" solicitation suit barred
Article Abstract:
The California Supreme Court has ruled in Rubin v Green that the defendant-owners of a trailer park sued for substandard maintenance of the property cannot bring another suit against the lawyers who allegedly persuaded park residents to sue. San Diego's Endeman, Lincoln, Turek and Heater was the firm accused of solicitation. Rubin may be a death knell for 'strategic litigation against public participation' (SLAPP), suits normally filed by real estate developers against environmental groups who oppose their plans.

Ex wins pillow-talk suit; divorce lawyers hope fraud verdict is overturned on appeal
Article Abstract:
A California trial court decision that an ex-wife must pay an ex-husband fraud damages for having lied about his sexual attractiveness to her is upsetting to the state's family law bar. Divorce attorneys fear the negative impact of such a decision on California's no-fault divorce law. Lawyers for the ex-husband claim this was a tort suit which happened to take place between spouses, and jurors say the key issue was one of honesty.
