Sanctions asked in Pan Am suits
Article Abstract:
In re: Air Disaster at Lockerbie, Scotland on Dec. 21, 1988 continues as plaintiffs and government request sanctions and a $750 million appeal bond. The sanctions sought relate to a defense strategy of using a report by investigator Juval Aviv who claimed that a renegade group of CIA agents blew up Flight 103 in a battle with rival agents. It appears that Aviv has worked for Lyndon LaRouche and that the LaRouche group was a party to the leak of the Aviv report. Sanctions sought by the government total more than $1 million, or the monetary equivalent of 18,872 hours spent on the case.

Civil liability trial on Flight 103 to start
Article Abstract:
The civil trial in the Lockerbie, Scotland, crash of Pan American Flight 103 is to begin on Apr 27, 1992. The main issue is whether an airline can be held responsible for a terrorist act. Pan Am maintains that only governments can be held responsible for terrorism. The Warsaw Convention limits wrongful-death damages on overseas flights to $100,000. The plaintiffs are trying to establish willful misconduct to get around that rule. They state that failure to positively match luggage with passengers is one example of willful misconduct.
