Soviet files cast doubt on OSI Nazi hunt
Article Abstract:
The opening of government archives after the Soviet Union's collapse has provided additional information to individuals continuing to track down aging war criminals and bring them to justice. Some of the documents found in Soviet archives have, however, also brought negative publicity to the Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations concerning its conduct of accused Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk's case. A reopening of Demjanjuk's extradition case by the 6th Circuit and a reconsideration of his death sentence by the Israeli Supreme Court are in process.
