Stupid judge tricks; in honor of Law Day, the NLJ presents its Top 10 list of the most amazing antics by judges
Article Abstract:
The National Law Journal presents its 'Top 10 list' of amazing behavior by judges drawn from a survey of local newspapers during 1997-98. One judge sent an anonymous threat to a colleague, then termed it a prank that went wrong. Another judge bit a defendant's nose severely enough to draw blood, still another disappeared from presiding over a drunk-driving case long enough to buy a 12-pack. All of this conduct hardly increases public respect for the rule of law.

Judges behaving badly (again); another collection of what-were-they-thinking stories
Article Abstract:
Some judges across the US were guilty of much outrageous behavior in 1998. Examples included using probationers for yard work at a judge's personal home and calling it community service, one who simply did not show up when assigned to a case he had no interest in, and one who kept a gun in his chambers. Judges who resign early enough in an investigation can keep their files sealed.
