The EPA's Clean Air mischief
Article Abstract:
The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposal to tighten air quality standards for ozone and particulates has gained criticisms. However, an implication that manipulation of executive negligence is about to occur since the EPA is trying to silence the criticisms. The proposal will require extensive regulations on consumers, automobile owners and small companies, since cities failing to comply with the new standard will be forced to introduce new programs including automobile emission inspections, alternative fuels and transportation control measures.

Bean counting for a better earth: environmental enforcement at the EPA
Article Abstract:
Top officials at the US Environmental Protection Agency are planning to increase the penalty levied to environmental polluters in an effort to enhance the department's enforcement capability. Critics expressed disappointment over the proposal, claiming that such efforts would be futile in improving the agency's performance. Raising the penalty for environmental offenders does not necessarily guarantee optimal results and satisfactory performance. Further, environmental cleanliness and compliance can not be ensured merely by imposing stringent policies.

Is lead a heavy threat?
Article Abstract:
Lead remains as the EPA's top toxic threat despite the lack of scientific consensus on the risks posed by lead exposure. Although lead is regarded as a dangerous neurotoxin, scientists cannot agree on the threshold at which its toxic effects begin. A 1979 study linking lead exposure with retarded child intellectual development and which serves as one of the bases of federal policy also remains unvalidated.
