The best things online aren't free
Article Abstract:
The Internet offers legal professionals a bounty of information, but it is not always free. The search sites, such as Yahoo!, offer access to many online resources, but they access no more than 32 percent of the Web. These engines cannot collect data from Web sites that require registration or a subscription, nor can they access data stored with the use of proprietary software. There are legal services that enable thorough case law research on the Internet, but typically charge for their services. Personal information can be obtained on the Web if the person's address, phone number or Social Security number appears in a public record. Personal credit histories cannot be obtained.
