Baby Bell battle in Congress
Article Abstract:
House Judiciary Chairman Jack Brooks introduced a bill on May 7, 1992, which would make the Baby Bells, the heirs of AT & T, wait 7 years before they could market electronic information services. If it becomes law, which is unlikely in the short 1992 congressional session, this would be a victory for newspaper publishers who are afraid of the possible competition. It is the first important piece of legislation to address the complex issue of dividing the marketing of information services.

GAO: court overbuilding a peril; judge's planning faulty
Article Abstract:
A 1993 General Accounting Office report has concluded that many federal courthouses are overstaffed and in some areas risk being overbuilt. The report concluded the judiciary's methods of predicting space needs are so flawed taxpayers risk paying more than $1.1 billion for unneeded courthouse space over the next decade. The Administrative Office of the US Courts has defended its methods.
