Two controversial incidents said to spotlight Harvard woes
Article Abstract:
Two 1992 incidents at Harvard law School were controversial enough to spark responses from other law schools. One was a parody in the Harvard Law Review of an essay published after the murder of feminist scholar Mary Joe Frug. This was universally condemned and the editors of the law review apologized. The other was a sit-in outside the office of Dean Robert C. Clark protesting Harvard's minority hiring practices. Both incidents highlight problems students see with Harvard's attitudes toward women and minorities.

President's bid to curb transfers points up the changes at Cooley
Article Abstract:
President Thomas E Brennan of Thomas M Cooley Law School in MI sparked a fierce controversy with a unilateral policy requiring would-be transferees to withdraw from Cooley before having transcripts sent to other schools. Cooley has a liberal admissions policy, accepting 83% of applicants last year, but tough grading and an 80% out-of-state student body encourage students to move elsewhere. An open forum with heated debate led Brennan to retract the policy; the school will hold a general assembly thrice yearly.

Big names put selves on block for public interest fund-raising
