WinSales Inc's $495 WinSales 3.0 contact manager provides a helpful plan of attack for organizing and managing contacts with clients. The database portion of the application stores names, telephone numbers and other contact information. The administrator function allows users to modify the data fields in the database. WinSales' strategy encompasses four levels of management including contact, opportunity, campaign and relationship. The program tracks contacts using a combined calendar, word processor, address book and tickler. Every step of the contact cycle is recorded, and activities are recorded as campaigns. The campaigns have their own budgets, revenue and targets and are useful for recording expenses. WinSales can also generate a list of actions to be performed each day for each contact. The fulfillment center automatically handles query and sort functions and indicates when correspondence has been sent to a specific contact.

Intuit's $119 QuickBooks for Macintosh 3.0 integrated accounting software's ease of use, strong reporting features and its grounding in double-entry accounting make it an attractive substitute for more complex programs. Users configure the program to their company by responding to a group of dialog boxes that prompt for information. After indicating the type of business involved, users may chose from preconfigured lists of accounts and may modify any list to suit their situation. QuickBooks allows different users within a company to transfer dates, account, categories or other data. QuickBooks suits invoice-based business better than law firms, but users will find it helpful in monitoring cash flow, client accounts and other accounting information for services performed. The application automates data entry and can perform all calculations using a partial descriptive entry supplied by the user.

Abacus Data Systems' Abacus Law+ case management software's quality and outstanding price make it one of the most popular applications of its breed. Abacus Law+'s calendaring function allows users to define a rule, then automatically enters events in a database according to that rule. Users may assign various tasks to others, and the software will record when the subordinate tasks are completed. A relational database component includes a 'names' function that allows users to identify companies or individuals, while another field accepts information on cases. Users may then link the cases to the names or to events. The report generation features are particularly strong and allow users to create and then save their own report parameters for reuse. It costs $399 and $599 for a network version with separate $100 modules for group-scheduling, conflicts, user-designed fields and other functions.
