BBC's Elliot scoops BBC radio job
Article Abstract:
BBC Radio 4 network manager Caroline Elliot has been named head of presentation of the five BBC national radio networks, a newly-created position. Elliot, whose appointment is on a one-year attachment, will report to Pam Masters, BBC Broadcast director of broadcasting and presentation. She will help in carrying out the new five-year plan for the networks, which is expected to generate savings of 4-million pound sterling in the current financial year. The savings will be used to fund live events and talent as well as the networks' new programming initiatives and marketing.

Bannister unveils five-year strategy

BBC Broadcast director of radio Matthew Bannister has unveiled a five-year strategy for the corporation's national radio networks, including a move to redirect some 4 million pounds sterling to a new fund that will be spent on airing live events and talent throughout all networks in the present fiscal year. The new fund will be used to pay for major programming ventures, including the week-long music festival in Glasgow, Scotland, dubbed "Music Live 1999." During the launch of the five-year plan, Bannister denied allegations that Radio 3 and Radio 4 will be downgraded.

Geldof's address at NAB to kick off Planet's 'big push.'

Planet 24 Radio has announced plans to target around 30 countries for its syndicated comedy radio programming campaign worldwide. The launch of the campaign will begin when Sir Bob Geldof, the chairman of the company, addresses the annual NAB international radio conference in Madrid, Spain. Geldof will outline the company's worldwide campaign which includes its current project called World of Comedy. The project is a compilation of the week's best radio comedy from around the globe which will be marketed in a number of areas including the UK.
