C4 admits Brits outclassed by US
Article Abstract:
Channel 4 CEO Michael Jackson concedes that the channel has failed to produce enough British programs that will equal US programs such as ER and Friends. Jackson's comments came out after the Independent Television Commission criticized the level of foreign programs on Channel 4 and rejected the channel's position that the funding formula prevented it from developing enough British programs. He said that he wants to develop more programs like Father Ted and Drop the Dead Donkey, and raised the plan to reinvigorate the soap program Brookside.

C4 woos indies with new post
Article Abstract:
Channel 4 has created a new position, to be filled in by Jacqueline Steward, to appeal more to independent producers. Steward, assistant director of the Edinburgh TV Festival for the last four years, said that the new post will be dedicated to the improvement of the relationship between the channel and independent producers, which now have a broader range of outlets for their ideas, thanks to digital, cable and satellite broadcasting. Steward will foremost review the channel's dealings with independents.
