Channel 4 investigates the History of Erotica
Article Abstract:
Channel 4 has commissioned the production of a 6 x 60-minute series called "The History of Erotica" as part of C4's World of Wonder series. The new program, which is to be executive produced by Fenton Bailey, managing director of World of Wonder, will showcase the effect of new technologies on pornography and erotica over the last one thousand years. The series starts with the invention of the printing press and progress to photography, film, video and the Internet. "History of Erotica," which will be promoted as an alternative history of civilization, is scheduled for telecast in the second half of 1999.

Head of documentaries for Canal+, Catherine Lamour, aims to have a catalogue of 500 documentary titles by the year 2000. Lamour is also head of Canal+ subsidiary Docstar, which provides funds for programming acquisitions and co-production, and which in 1998 invested $8.5 million. The station currently shows around 150 documentaries per year, compared to 50 in 1984. An overview of Lamour's career is included.
