Court clears path for Aussie Super League
Article Abstract:
A recent court ruling in Australia has overturned an earlier decision which banned the operation or promotion of Super League in the country until the 21st century. The new ruling represents a significant victory for News Ltd, which has no large sporting rights in Australia apart from Super League, over the Australian Rugby League and pay television operator Optus Vision. News Ltd has already invested 138 million pounds sterling in promoting Super League, with around 20.2 million pounds sterling having been invested by Optus Vision and the Nine Network to prevent it going ahead.

Australis Media secures A$200 million funding
Article Abstract:
Lenfest Communications, United International Holding Asia/Pacific, Guiness Peat Group and Publishing and Broadcasting have joined together to offer financial support to Australian pay-TV operator Australis Media. This will present problems for Rupert Murdoch, who was hoping to exploit the weakness of Australis in order to renegotiate a 25-year programming deal between Foxtel and Australis. There are also plans for Australis to issue 23.5 million securities, raising a further A$13 million.
