Discreet makes GBP4.2 million in latest quarter

Discreet Logic, a software manufacturer based in Canada, has posted profits of 4.2 million pounds sterling, or $6.8 million in its final quarter that ended June 30, 1998. The amount is higher by over 25% compared to the 3.3 million pounds sterling, or $5.4 million, earnings it reported for the same period in 1997. Revenues at the company during the quarter also surge to $24.7 million pounds sterling, or $40.2 million, from 21.3 million pounds sterling, or $34.8 million in 1997 for the same quarter. For the entire fiscal year, Discreet Logic reported a net loss of 368,000 pounds sterling, or $600,000, brought largely by charges relating to acquisitions.

Edit Store pumps 1 million pounds sterling into expansion

Edit Store and sister company Sound Store are investing 1 million pounds sterling to acquire the companies' neighbouring areas in central London, UK, and expand their facilities. The expansion project calls for adding another online non-linear editing facility and four offline suites, giving the companies a total of 12 offline facilities by the end of November 1998. There is also a plan to construct a third dubbing facility and a dedicated Foley stage, designed specifically to draw more drama jobs.
