First BIB services to launch in spring
Article Abstract:
British Interactive Broadcasting, a May 1997 joint venture of BSkyB, BT, Matsushita and Midland Bank, has scheduled a spring 1999 launching of its television interactive service after receiving two transmission licenses fom the Independent Television Commission. Branded as Open, the service will initially launch on BSkyB's digital satellite service on December 1998, then as a free service in spring 1999 and eventually on commercial basis by autumn. The initial service will first feature six companies while the spring introduction is set to include 10 retailers, seven data providers and six games developers.

Al-Fayed man gets talk show
Article Abstract:
Living, a cable and satellite channel owned by Flextech Television, has contracted Independent Image to produce a new daytime talk show with Michael Cole, who is the former spokesman of Harrods and a royal correspondent of BBC, as main show host. Independent Image will initially produce 27 x 40-minute programs using Cole, who is scheduled to start filming on September 26 and 27, 1998 at Flextech's Maidenhead studios. The program, which is intended to become the British version of the Jerry Springer Show, is expected to air its first episode on November 2, 1998.
