Friendly rivals
Article Abstract:
Terrestrial UK television broadcaster Channel 4 is believed to have paid $100 million to distributor Warner Bros. to retain the rights to its hit US shows 'ER' and 'Friends', beating rival bidder Channel 5. The deal is an example of how UK broadcasters are competing to show popular US TV shows. Channel 4 was able to make its higher bid for the package, which includes 27 movies, because it realised that its privatization had been postponed by the UK government.
