Reorganisation at Granada Media Group (GMG) is intended to put the company in a position to go ahead with plans to purchase ITV companies and television production companies both within the UK and abroad. Production has been separated from broadcasting, while LWT Productions and Granada Products will both be part of the production division. Possible takeover targets include Y-TTTV.

Malcolm Gerrie is managing director of Initial Film and Television and will play an important role in decisions about future investments. Initial was taken over by Broadcast Communications, owned by the Guardian Media Group, in 1992. The company is expanding its library by increasing programming rights investment and is seeking ways of signing both on-screen and off-screen talent.

Marcus Plantin, the ITV Network director, is aiming to stimulate regrowth in ITV's ratings with the launch of costume dramas, such as Moll Flanders and Emma in 1996. Popular light entertainment programmes will include Michael barrymore, Cilla Black and Bruce Forsyth. There will also be new emphasis on factual drama.
