Article Abstract:
Falling viewing figures for market leader Independent Television (ITV) during summer 1995 and an overall rating of 36.8% audience share for the year so far show that the channel is losing market share. Its main rival, BBC1, continues steadily with a 31.7% share and ITV is seen to have lost out mainly to satellite channels led by BSkyB. Another threat is the inauguration of new Channel 5, due in 1996. However, a new autumn programme lineup is expected by ITV bosses, led by network director Michael Plantin, to reverse the trend. Some observers of the industry suggest that ITV's programmes are too predictable to attract new viewers.

Article Abstract:
Independent Television Commission (ITC) Chief Executive Peter Rogers is against the idea of the ITV networks forming one large company. Instead he feels they should put more investment into digital television and grow organically. The use of imported programmes is an issue with regard to C4 and BSkyB, although he is pleased with the way BSkyB has grown. He does not support the proposed OFcom regulatory body to oversee broadcasting and telecommunications, saying the two jobs involve separate issues. The ITC believes the BBC should be included in any review of regulations.
