Gagging for a good script
Article Abstract:
One way of getting your comedy scripts noticed is to go along to Broadcasting House, London, UK, on a Wednesday lunchtime. Radio 4's 'Weekending' programme holds an open script meeting where new writers can present their work. Another route is via the Footlights at Cambridge or by appearing in stand-up comedy shows. Competition is intense and writers are quickly forgotten if they cannot consistently come up with original ideas. A related sidebar article gives advice about how to succeed as a comedy scriptwriter.

Factual fancies
Article Abstract:
Meridian Broadcasting Controller of Programmes and Production Richard Simons plans to build up the company's production base gradually and cautiously. He has gained a strong reputation for being very aware of the likes and dislikes of ITV audiences, and believes that a populist approach has helped Meridian to achieve a rapid growth in network commissions. He is working on a number of ideas, although Meridian is currently making no factual commissions beyond winter 1998.
