Yorkshire-Tyne Tees Television (YTTTV) has expanded its pre-tax profit by 40% to 30.2 million pounds sterling in 1996, up 8.5 million pounds sterling from 1995. The company's productions account for 21% of ITV's total network primetime and it has a 10.3% share of advertising revenue. YTTTV's managing director of programme production, David Holdgate, says that the company is investing heavily in new drama. However, such success means that network documentaries production has fallen.

Eileen Gallagher is managing director of broadcasting at Granada/London Weekend Television, responsible for 300 hours of programming. She has also recently won seats on both Granada and LWT boards. She moved from STV's press office in 1986 to take responsibility for Children's ITV schedule in 1986, and became head of programme planning in 1987. She took over ast STV director of broadcasting in 1992.

Viacom of the US, a media company, launched its flagahip services MTV in the UK in 1987. Successive launches included Nickelodeon, the children's channel and VH-1, a music channel. It has also launched the Sky Multi-Channels package and more launches are rumoured to be in the pipeline, incuding MTV 2 and Sundance Channel.
