BBC Worldwide has launched two channels, one division and has undergone much restructuring since its launch 12 months ago. Its plans to become a global media company have been criticised as being unbecoming of a public service broadcaster. The link between the BBC and commercial ventures such as BBC Prime are regarded with some suspicion.

Paul Spencer has become controller of comedy at the ITV Network Centre. He joined BBC Radio as producer in light entertainment in 1982 and joined Central TV as head of comedy in 1991, where he was later promoted to controller of comedy. He became head of comdedy at Carlton UK Productions in 1995, before joining ITV in July 1995.
