How EPGs might distort the digital TV market
Article Abstract:
Oftel and the Independent Television Commission are both aware of the dangers of pay television broadcasters abusing the electronic programme guide (EPG) which will be contained in the subsidized satellite and terrestrial set-top boxes used for digital television broadcasting in the UK. British Digital Broadcasting and Digital Television Network, which are competing for the main terrestrial licences, will want their EPG to operate on the BBC, C5/S4C and ITV/C4 multiplexes. This would mean that the other multiplexes would have to give up a great deal of bandwidth.
