ITC calls for delay to end of analogue
Article Abstract:
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) believes that the removal of analog television in the market will be delayed to around 2018 instead of within 10 years from 1998 according its report submitted to the UK government. ITC based its assessment on the public's need for more time to replace their existing television sets, video recorders and other related equipment with digital-based ones. ITC said the public should be given freedom to purchase the required equipment to receive the new platform. ITC also noted that there is still a need for more research relating digital satellite's viability and reception.

Morrison calls for TV 'super studios.'
Article Abstract:
Granada Media Group CEO Steve Morrison challenges the UK television industry to establish US-style super studios to effectively compete with the growing digital pay-TV industry. Morrison predicted that programs and channels will evolve to be sold directly to the customer thereby creating a need to increase marketing costs. He said an estimated cost for research, advertising and development for launching a channel could reach at least 10 million pounds sterling. Only the creation of super studios could contend with the stiff competition in pay-TV industry that carries a variety of selections of programs.
